Rubber Care
If correctly looked after your latex can remain in good condition for many years to come. To help you look after your purchase we have listed some helpful hints and tips below.
Latex will tear easily if it is pulled or snagged and long fingernails can be very hazadous. Always use plenty of talcum powder or silicone based lubricant to get your garment on and take care with your nails.
Latex can be effected by perfume, body sprays and oils so keep your garment away from these substances. Many forms of liquid, other than water, can also effect the surface finish of latex so be very careful when leaning against a wet bar top etc.
Light coloured latex can stain very easily and stains can not be removed. A chemical reaction can occur when latex comes into contact with copper or copper deposits, so try avoid handling coins and then touching your garment, the same applies to newspaper print.
The outer surface of latex is best polished to a wet look by using silicone polish such as our Pjur CULT Latex Shine. Using Pjur CULT Conditioner will help keep your garments in good condition for years to come.
When you have worn your garment, wash it with luke warm soapy water and then rinse thoroughly in the shower. Turn them inside out to allow them to dry or use a towel to dry the garment thoroughly. Once completely dry, talc the garment and store in a cupbaord away from sunlight. Be warned that washing your item too much and leaving to sit in water can cause the garment to lose it's shine.
When latex comes into contact with light it develops a white powder bloom. The bloom does clean off but it is not desirable as it weakens the rubber's strength and shine. Storing your garment in a black bin liner or suit carrier away from sunlight will help prevent this from happening.
Each time you wear your garment remember to put more talcum powder on the inside and if required polish the outside surface. Caring and looking after your rubber items will help extend their life. Latex is a natural product that naturally degrades and can wear very quickly, especially at stress points such as elbows, knees, seat and if the garment is tight fitting.
